This formerly high-flying offshoot of Xerox PARC recently crashed from 12 to 2 1/2 currently on bad earnings. Their Smalltalk product line is passe because of Java - yet the market has made the mistake of overreacting, since Java is *very* similar to Smalltalk and PARQ's corporate connections and market penetration will make them a good bet to do well porting their Smalltalk CASE products to Java, which is relatively easy and gives them a big headstart on other players.
On a fundamental basis, the stock is priced cheap -- selling near book for a glamorous software company with some of the world's best object-oriented programmers, and potentially a great growth story in the corporate Java marketplace.
There's more in the PARQ thread under "Software," but since PARQ is now a "$5 and under" stock I thought you guys would appreciate the tip. This is a touty neighborhood, but this is the genuine article and a rare opportunity. |
