Return to Hybridon HYBN, for discussion of antisense drugs.

I came across this lead the-scientist.library.upenn.edu
when a friend asked me to check out hybn. It explains antisense
technology in basic and advanced terms so that anyone can get
something from the explaination. It is very intriging. But the clinical
trials are only at phase Ib-II at most and only a total of 5 drugs are
under evaluation. HYBN has 2 going, ISIS I think has some, GILD
has some and may have a drug approved, but I'm not sure it is an
antisense drug.

Very risky at this time when biotechs are not responding to promises,
but instead going up only on results that will result in drug sales in the
near term. This is not one of those. It will be at least a year or two
before we see if this tech lives up to it's promise.

Very elegant tech and relatively simple, but is only recently practical
due to technology advances and a critical mass of knowledge. I
was stunned things have gone this far. I often talk to others of the
promise of biotech, but I thought it was 5-10 years off.

Don't take me wrong, but this tech really could result in effective
treatments with no or low toxicity for cancer, any virus, any bacteria
or fungus. I won't elaborate more at this time, but if you read about it
you will wonder why you have not heard or at least understood this
before. I tried to read about it in an article about ISIS and I could not
rapidly figure it out. It turns out it was so easy that the author of that
other article must not be a good teacher, or maybe it's not that easy
to understand.

I would like to hear from those who have followed this for awhile.
If no one answers, I'll just start talking to myself in a couple of days.

PS- I also found an article that said a closed down mutual fund
had made unauthorized trades in the antisense companies and
warned that those stocks would drop as the fund liquidated their
holdings. The article was about a month old and sure enough, the
prices have been cratering. I'll try to find it and be more specific.
