Because there are many investors who want to know about TA, I am using this forum to post a series of "lessons". The focus will be on basic TA only, with examples provided at URLs to illustrate.

This is by no means a comprehensive study, and those wishing to learn more are encouraged to read books and other threads of a more advanced nature. Questions are encouraged and will be answered on a selective basis to further the process. Flames will be ignored.

What will be covered in this thread?
- Chart patterns; reversal, consolidation
- Support and resistance
- Trendlines and channels
- Gaps
- Moving averages
- Candlesticks

These are the fundamentals of tech analysis. More esoteric methods are used also, and have their followers. However, it is not in the scope of this thread to cover them in-depth.

I am not a pro, and do not pretend to know everything. I do have five years experience using TA to make investment decisions.

As always, the success of this thread depends on those who use it. I welcome others experienced in TA to answer questions posted here. Also, please resist the temptation to make stock picks to this thread.
