A number of good threads discussing supply chain management software have come up here on SI. I hope to start discussions here that can compare and contrast the aspects of various firms (e.g. Manugistics [manu], American Software/Logility [amswa], I2 [itwo]) in the supply chain management industry.
For those of you unfamilar with supply chain management, it deals with the efficient management of sourcing raw materials through production and distribution to the end consumer. Some firms I'd like to cover deal more with the logistics/transportation aspect and others deal more with forecasting/demand planning aspect of supply chain management.
The software tools that are emerging today will help significantly reduce the cost of goods and improve service responsiveness. There are some estimates that I have seen that suggest this industry will reach $1 billion in sales by the year 2000.
I hope to stimulate good conversation about the players and prospects (both public and private) in this industry.
