Nematron Granted Patent for Award-Winning Hinged Chassis Design of its Industrial Control Computer Series

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Aug. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Nermatron Corporation (Nasdaq: NEMA) today announced that it was awarded patent #5,666,264 for its hinged chaissis designed that is a standard
feature of its ISA/PCI Bus Industrial Control Computer(TM) (ICC(TM))
series. This follows the recent announcement that this series of computers has passed Microsoft's Windows NT Hardware Compatibility Test (HCT) and is now qualified for the Designed for Microsoft Windows NT Logo License program. The exclusive hinged chassis design of Nematron's industrial automation hardware offers several distinct benefits to users. The rear chassis swings open easily, allowing quick access to LCD backlighting bulbs that can be changed in less than five minutes on most models. Additionally, the
chassis, housing all electrical components, can be opened and
removed without tools and without removing any cables, and the
latching mechanism automatically aligns the chassis for ease of
re-attachment.

The front of an ICC mounts easily on a pedestal or in a panel,
using clips to subsequently attach the rear chassis. This feature
eliminates the requirement of drill mounting holes and simplifies
the installations process. In addition, the sealed membrane keypad
located on the front panel features relegendable and reprogrammable
function keys that have CMOS memory to hold the configuration
independent of the electronics. This feature includes new tools
that provide the ability to log operating information about the
usage, temperature, and backlight in each ICC unit. Furthermore,
upgrade MTTR is extremely low since the electronics chassis can be
exchanged from an enclosure mounting in less than three minutes.
Nematron's newest ICC models are based on Intel's Pentium and
Pentium Pro processors and contend as the fastest industrial
computers available on the market today. In addition to the
patented hinged design, these ICCs provide numerous other
advantages, including such features as:
* Resistive touchscreen
* A variety of TFT or STN passive displays in various
resolutions
* Stainless steel NEMA 4X rated front bezel to meet
specifications of the
food and drug industries
* Anti-glare screen that allows display viewing even in
high-glare environments

Nematron designs and manufactures PC-based industrial automation
products that include software direct machine control, process
visualization, and data acquisition. In addition, the Company
produces related hardware products that leverage or support its
software. Nematron's subsidiaries develop software products that
cover a broad spectrum of applications, including software designed
for the Microsoft Windows NT operating system. Nematron pioneered
the operator interface segment of factory automation in 1983 with
the introduction of the Industrial Workstation(TM). For additional
