Fri 19 Sept 97 In the News The Financial Post says in its Friday edition that if you missed the Alberta diamond play, here is one that is not as hot: the Greenland diamond play. Reporter John Schreiner says that it only involves a handful of companies listed on Canadian exchanges, often with inter-related directors. All except Dia Met Minerals are trading at close to their 52-week lows. The Greenland play is at a very early stage. Little drilling has been done and no kimberlite pipes have been found. Kimberlite boulders, however, have been found, two of which contained diamonds, and there are plenty of indicator minerals. Rather than quarrel about overlapping claims, Platinova Resources invited Fjordland Minerals to earn a 50 per-cent interest in about a third of the Platinova ground. Major General Resources president Richard Atkinson formed Fjordland as a new company for the Greenland program. Dia Met says that chairman Charles Fipke's sampling in Greenland detected kimberlite indicator minerals at least as favourable as in the Lac de Gras discovery in the Northwest Territories. It seems as if the majors like De Beers, Dia Met and Aber plus juniors such as Lexam and Fiordland have already staked properties in Greenland. Does anyone have any information about a timeframe or schedule for work to be done by these companies on their Greenland properties? |
