Ameritrade is a reborn company. As of yesterday, they have completely consolidated the 3 former subsidiary brokerages of Ceres, eBroker, and K. Aufhauser into 1 -- Ameritrade. And now starts a massive "8 bucks" advertising campaign to get the word out.
By consolidating Ceres into Ameritrade, they are bringing a lot of customers into the Internet trading arena. This can only help them as they look to expand their operations and take a commanding position in the Internet brokerage industry. As one company, I feel that they can compete very effectively with the E*TRADEs and Dateks of the world.
I personally am going to get rid of my Datek account and switch to Ameritrade. I can't help but think that many will follow suit, and this is why I feel we should be investing in AMTD itself. They are offering the most services for the best price, and it looks like they are on their way to making a real name for themselves.
