Return to 1998 Magic 25

Individual Investor Magazine picks 25 stocks in their December issue
that they believe to be poised for better-than-average growth in
the coming year. Their picks have included some dogs: VSTA and PRNS
(both now delisted and bankrupt), but several of them have been
excellent picks - MANU, BTIM, NICEY, DATM, QLGC, LSS, and SEI
to name a few.

I myself have profited over the past two years from trades in WGTI,
MANU, AXC, KEI, and NICEY. I was lucky enough to pick up some WGTI
at 17 in September of last year. I noticed a huge earnings increase
in the AFGC feature in II in the September issue, did some additional
DD, and picked it up.

I unloaded my position at 29 two months later. I am not
posting this information to boast of my quick gain, but rather to
underscore that I profited mainly because the stock went on to be
featured as a 1997 Magic 25 stock. The stock had a tiny float,
and it didn't take much new buying to push it up.

Almost all of the Magic 25 stocks posted hefty gains in Dec. 1996
and Jan 1997. Some have since collapsed, but then again, look at
NICEY, QLGC, BTIM, and THRX.

I would like to profit from the 1998 Magic 25 effect, if possible.
So I would like your input as to what stocks might be good
candidates.

II tends to pick small or micro-cap companies with solid balance
sheets, or stocks that are somewhat riskier in that they are
releasing new products that will capture a large portion of
market share - leading to solid balance sheets. They also tend
to pick stocks that they have featured in the preceding year.

I will post some of my guesses in a few days, with more to follow.

Please post your reasons as to why your stock may be picked. And
please be civil - we're here to make money, not to argue. Thanks,

Andrew Aiken
