I've had this thing since it came out in November 1996
and I was wondering if there are enough people around
that want to discuss their good and bad experiences or
expectations with this product. In the prolonged absence
of high speed cable boxes etc., this is the only game in
town for most people. So chime in on this forum, and
maybe enough of use can get them to further improve the
service with this public thread of user feedback. No
multibillion dollar company really cares what one person
has to say, but a few dozen in a public forum, now that's
democracy and capitolism at it's best! I'd be more than
happy to volenteer some clever tips and pitfalls to avoid
when installing and using this system. Current users
please take the time to contribute your opinions on this
product. I'm particulary interested in your satisfaction
with speed/performance as I personally have noticed a very
dramatic slowdown over the past year as more people use the
satellite, and we are all forced to share bandwidth. (They
are using a second satellite for the "Duo" systems that have
both DirecPC & DirecTV on the same dish.) I noticed the slow
down around the same time they started offering half speed
half price service, but I fear even the full priced customers
are getting half ass performance. The only way I can confirm
my suspisions is if enough people are willing to contribute
their experiences, and bring Hughes to task for any possible
misrepresentation. So please contribute what you can, thanks.
