Robotic laser-cutting and welding systems made by PRIMA Group International for use by automakers have been limited primarily to producing prototypes and other limited production runs for BMW, Fiat, Ford, Volvo, and others. The company is counting on car makers moving toward using its equipment, which is slower than traditional cutting methods but more precise. Its 3-D laser system trims, punches, slots, and welds 3-D objects. PRIMA Group's 2-D system cuts and welds flat surface shapes. Its subsidiary Prima Electronics makes the software and hardware controlling the laser systems.
