Echelon makes development hardware and software used by original equipment manufacturers and systems integrators in the building, industrial, and transportation automation industries to design distributed control networks (less costly and more flexible alternatives to traditional centralized control networks). The company's products, which are based on its LonWorks networking technology, include transceivers, control modules, routers, network interfaces, development tools, and software tools. It markets its products through direct sales in North America; products are also sold in Europe and Asia. Customers include Honeywell and Raytheon. Echelon has strategic alliances with Motorola and Toshiba.
