                    Pathnet intends to deploy a new telecommunications network, selling capacity to other carriers. The company plans to build the network by upgrading existing wireless infrastructures into a digital synchronous optical network (SONET). Billing itself as a "carrier's carrier," Pathnet intends to market its network to local exchange carriers, Internet service providers,interexchange carriers, and regional Bell operating companies. The company plans to upgrade and integrate existing telecommunications assets of railroads, utilities, and state and local governments, and it has agreements for the design and construction of about 7,000 route miles of network with seven entities, including Enron, Idaho Power, and KN Energy. 
  Scheduled to IPO the week of 8/10/98.
