For the same reasons some of the "news only" threads were created, I'd like to offer this one for intelligent discussion of our favorite networkers, many of which are contained in the index.
The Networking Index is composed of shares of the following 15 issues: Cisco Systems, Inc. (CSCO) Lucent Technologies, Inc. (LU) Northern Telecom Limited (NT) 3Com Corp. (COMS) Tellabs, Inc. (TLAB) ADC Telecommunications, Inc. (ADCT) Madge Networks N.V. (MADGF) Alcatel Alsthom (ALA) Newbridge Networks Corp. (NN) Ascend Communications, Inc. (ASND) Cabletron Systems, Inc. (CS) PairGain Technologies, Inc. (PAIR) ECI Telecommunications Limited (ECILF) FORE Systems, Inc. (FORE) Xylan Corp. (XYLN)
The Index is calculated using a modified equal-dollar weighting method designed to approximate each component's market capitalization by designating the number of shares representing an investment of 12% in each of the four highest capitalized securities in the Index (a total of 48% of the Index value) and 4.73% in each of the remaining 11 securities in the Index (a total of 52% of the Index value). Shares were rounded to the nearest whole share and the aggregate value of the stocks was divided by a divisor to establish an Index benchmark value of 200.00 at the close of trading on Oct. 20, 1995. Adjustments, as necessary, are made quarterly after the close of trading on the third Friday of January, April, July and October so that the four largest capitalized stocks in the Index represent 48% of the Index value and the remaining securities represent 52%.
Let's discuss these companies in relation to each other, the market, the economy, or the news. All participants on this thread are assumed to make their own investment decisions, and do not require advice on what positions to take.
NO SHORT TERM PRICE PREDICTIONS, PLEASE!
