Return to The New SEctor SPDR Funds

The American Stock Exchange has just announced the creation of this very interesting new product, sector SPDR funds traded just like an ordinary stock.

Select Sector SPDRs provide the opportunity to diversify your stock holdings within specific market sectors. Together, the nine Funds comprise all of the companies included in the S&P 500 Index. The Select Sector SPDR Funds represent individual Select Sector Indexes that hold portfolios of the leading companies in their respective industries. Though still subject to market fluctuation, investors who diversify their holdings can generally reduce the impact of price
fluctuations caused by specific company developments. And by trading on the American Stock Exchange, Select Sector SPDR Fund shares can be bought or sold as easily as buying or selling shares of stock.

Shares are available for exchange trading in the following Funds:

Select Sector SPDR Fund Ticker Symbol
Basic Industries Sector XLB
Consumer Services Sector XLV
Consumer Staples Sector XLP
Cyclicals/Transportation Sector XLY
Energy Sector XLE
Financial Sector XLF

This forum is created to disucss the pros and cons, timing, selection and other tatics and strategies of using this new product.
