The company's StoryServer content management software lets Web publishers drop in stories on their sites without reprogramming, and helps manufacturers personalize private Web pages with data for individual clients. Founded in 1995,Vignette is also developing software to allow parties to publish content across multiple sites. Known for keeping close ties to its customers, Vignette counts Time Warner, Ziff-Davis, National Semiconductor, and Hoover's among its clients. CNET, whose technology provided Vignette with the basis for StoryServer, owns a 10% stake in the company.
