INTERNET ASIA + Indexes

The idea for this thread came as a result of three Asian Internet related stocks, which I used to call my triplets or the trilogy: GTCI, IMOT and XNET, back in early March 1999:

Message 8224416

Message 8238531

Message 8275737

The rest, of course is history:

IMOT gained over 300% to a high of $10.00. It closed today at: $7.94

XNET gained over 1400% to a high of $6.00. It closed today at:$5.90

GTCI gained over 300% to a high of $4.62. It closed today at: $3.66

In the meantime, I came across ZSUN that I recommended and bought at $9.62.

ZSUN gained over 360% to a high of $35.00. It closed today at: $19.50

These four stocks will form the basis of the Index, to which have been added PCNTF and ASCM. Other stocks will be added as we discover them. The common factor is that they must derive at least 75% of their income from Internet related operations in Asia.

It should be understood that Asia represents tremendous growth potential for the Internet, because it is starting near "Ground Zero". In addition, there are very few public Companies currently in the field and meeting our requirements. Therefore, I believe that rarity will command a premium that should be reflected in higher PE's.

Because it's a lot of work to run a thread, I have been lucky in securing help from some very qualified people, who will act as co-hosts and take on responsibility for stocks they know well.

Yongzhi Yang, our Chinese expert, will oversee GTCI; BomboochaBoy will take care of PCNTF and perhaps ASMC, although it remains to be seen whether ASMC will actually be part of the Index, long term. I will report on ZSUN and both Fatt and I, will co-host XNET. We are looking for a volunteer on IMOT.

This is intended as a serious and informative thread, reflecting contributors enthusiasm for their stocks, but avoiding hype as much as possible. Hourly commentaries on how well/poorly a stock is doing and MM's latest tricks are best kept to the respective threads. We invite the proposal of new stocks, which if they meet our criteria, will be added to the Index.

Each stock will have a link to an upgradable fact sheet, so a "newbie" can find the stock's salient features without having to read every post. In addition, BomboochaBoy has agreed to maintain three Indexes: one reflecting daily changes and two portfolio type Indexes, one starting begining of January 1999, to give an historic sense of perspective and the other at 2nd April 1999. Links will be provided shortly on the thread's Home Page.

Contributors will be invited to disclose whether they are long or short, to help put what they say in its proper perspective. To give the example, I am long and own: 25,000 XNET; 20,000 GTCI and 1500 ZSUN at today's date.
