I went to high school in Ct from 1986---1989. Like any school, we had our motley crew of classmates. Athletes, scholars, artsy types, cheerleaders, rockin rollers, quiet shy types etc.. Yes there was a little dope, a little sex(over the age of 16 and still it was scarce in our school) a fair amount of booze, a few fights[m/f] We were not an INTERNET/COMPUTERIZED high school. Overall, just a basic, normal, high school.

I have a younger brother who went to high school from 94--96. We were close and I was friends with his friends so I knew what was going on in the inside of this community. What I found out was quite disturbing. Girls as young as 12 having sex regularly. Drugs use changed. Instead of dope it was smack, heroin and coke. There were what was called wiggers in our town. A group of teens formed together into a gang mentality. Selling drugs into our upper-middle class town. White kids emulating inner-city drug dealers. RAP music, baggy pants and a attitude.

This leads me to this disaster. #1 I put a lot of blame on the kids parents. There has to be parent intervention at the first sign of "strange and or violent behavior". I feel the Internet has contributed to the decline in our teenage community. Everyone here I hope can understand what I mean.

My solution is to keep kids busy UNTIL they are tired. Jobs, sports, after-school music, art classes, homework groups computer classes. Parents mandate their children to partake in after school activities, no questions asked. I think students driving cars to school should be banned. Baseball hats, beepers and a reasonable clothing policy should be put into effect. Security personal should be hired to watch all exits in and out and NO student shall roam the halls besides changing classes or lunch/library/gym priviliges without having an authorized pass.

Tougher school policies must be invoked. There must be better communication between scool and parent. Community plans should be drawn up and executed. Internet usage must be kept to a minimum, unless it is used for class work/studies.

We need to move TODAY. We NEED TO OPEN OUR EYES. Values are going out the door. We the older generation, must take responsibilty and take it back.

This thread is for anything regarding the crisis. The actual event, how to prevent et al
