Will this partnership be a powerhouse? Will the stockmarket recognize it's position as a leading technology company?
<<ST. JOHN'S, HALIFAX, CHARLOTTETOWN, SAINT JOHN, May 31 - A new name will enter the TSE tomorrow with the launch of Aliant Inc., a $3 billion growth company with revenues of $1.7 billion, 9,000 employees, and interests in telecommunications, information technology, mobile satellite communications, and emerging business.
Trading under the symbol "AIT", Aliant has emerged onto the Canadian technology scene from the business combination of Bruncor Inc., Island Telecom Inc., Maritime Telegraph and Telephone Company, Limited, and NewTel Enterprises Limited, owners of the major IT and provincial telecommunications companies in Atlantic Canada. Over 99% of voting shareholders were in favour of the resolution to form one company in Shareholder Meetings which were held on May 18 and 19. BCE Inc. will beneficially own 41.6% of Aliant. As a result of this combination, the shares of Bruncor (BRR), Island Tel (IT), MTT (MTT), and NewTel Enterprises (NEL) will no longer be traded on the stock exchanges as of the opening of business>>
