Company Background
The inspiration for eGain came as co-founders Gunjan Sinha and Ashutosh Roy were in the process of founding WhoWhere?, an Internet directory and communication services company acquired by Lycos. On the first day of WhoWhere?'s launch, they received an overwhelming number of emails. Seeing that their situation was not unique - that most Web-based businesses were also experiencing a flood of customer email - they took action to develop a software solution that would respond to and manage high volumes of online customer communications.
