E-Stamp hopes to e-stomp over those long lines at the post office. The company's Internet postage software and hardware let small and home offices buy postage stamps using a PC, the Internet, and a printer. Users buy stamps through E-Stamp's Web site, download them, and print them onto documents, letters, and labels. Users can also calculate postal weight, determine cost, and track usage. E-Stamp, which received the US Postal Service's approval to sell stamps online in 1999, is targeting the retail and mail-order markets for future customers. Entities affiliated with AT&T Ventures own 7% of the company, and Microsoft owns almost 7%. Other investors include Compaq, Excite@Home, and Germany's Francotyp-Postalia. |
