Most Biotechs performed very well in December, 1999. That trend seems to have legs. So I expect the biotech sector to continue to outperform the market into FY2000.
For 1999 numerous stocks selling at under $5 to begin the year broke through that barrier and kept on going. I know because I sold several early for a couple of bucks per share profit, which could have been held to buy me a new Cadillac.
It is safe to say that there will be some ten baggers in biotechs priced under $5 to begin FY2000. It is also safe to say that most of the low priced biotechs are cheap for a good reason, and they will end the year in the dung heap where they belong. The trick is to find hidden value in cheap stocks.
Several factors that I consider when looking at cheap biotechs are: researh being carried on, management, cash on hand, research talent, insider ownership, takeover potential, and (last, but not least) comments from some of the really smart folks on the SI biotech threads.
So if you have a point of view on any low priced biotech stock, please share it. |
