I'm missing something from the run-up in Amati. The way I understand things, Amati's DMT technology, although theoretically faster than CAP, isn't mature (or in production, for that matter) like Westell's CAP technology.
Secondly, Westell is not just a modem supplier. It has another significant product called SuperVision, an ADSL multiplexor that takes an OC-3 (155Mbps) input and distributes data to numerous ADSL subscribers at 6 Mbps downstream/640 Kbps backchannel. US West has stated that they will incorporate this access system in their ADSL deployment, which, from my research, makes the DMT argument moot.
Any comments and additional info would be appreciated. |
