Return to EXLN - Excelon

Excelon is a new company which is vaguely related to its predecessor, Object Design. Object Design specialized in providing Object Oriented Database Management Systems (ODBMS) under its flagship product, Objectstore. This product is a database which efficiently stores complex data types called objects. These data types are a mix of code, text, graphics, sounds, and other entities which now are becoming standard fare on the Internet. In the past stored objects were mostly text and so resources went heavily into storage engines which could manage text. These engines are called Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) and Oracle is the premier world wide provider of them.

With the advent of heavy Net usage has come ever greater demand for the ability to manipulate complex data types. The Net language is application shell based and is a layer on top of older languages. The Net language is called mark-up language (e.g. HTML) and you can see a sample of it by clicking View-->Source in IE or View-->Page Source in Navigator for this page.

A more sophisticated variant of these mark-up languages is XML which differs from HTML in that it has variable tags in contrast to HTML's fixed tags. You can see the bracketed tags in this page's source. XML gives programmers the ability to avoid the complexities of internal coding while realizing great flexibilty in managing Net objects.

Excelon creates software for businesses to enable them to transform their corporate structure from older static interaction technologies to the newer Business to Business, BtoB, dynamic technologies so that they may conduct business over the Net. This requires an efficient storage engine, server software which manages many diverse software environments, rapid development software architecture which is backwardly compatible to older systems, and talks in a simple universal language. Excelon's Javelin server software does this and the Excelon development environment enables a corporation to realize this comprehensive and complete system easily and rapidly.
