Sounds vaguely pornographic, but it's not. This company sells perfume and cologne under the REALM trademark which contain human pheremones. Based on research carried out in the University of Utah, scientists have discovered a small organ in the nose called the vomeronasal organ which is linked to the brain and is sensitive to certain pheremone-like compounds.
According to the company, the perfume, which has been on the market for about two years, leaves the wearer feeling more at ease with herself/ himself. It is unlike traditional pheremones which attract members of the opposite sex and the company is careful to make this distinction. Initially, response to the company's products was slow. However, EROX has been aggressively moving into upscale department stores like Bloomingdale's and has increased its product line to include bath oils/lotions.
Earnings have been accelerating for the company and the company is close to breaking even. I bought some Realm for Men a while ago just to test it out. I'm not sure if it did anything to my mood, but I was pleasantly surprised by the scent i.e. it smelled good. I saw a NightLine episode about a year ago where the reporter let the scientists at EROX put electrodes on her head to measure brainwaves and proceeded to instill various placebos/pheremones in her nose. When the placebo was used, the woman's brain activity consisted only of alpha and beta waves. When the pheremone was used, it changed the brain wave pattern significantly and increased delta waves significantly. Delta waves are characteristic of deep sleep. The woman reporter, without being asked or prompted, immediately wanted to guess which was the pheremone and guessed correctly.
Anyone have any opinions on this stock? It is near its all-time high of around $4 with significant strength.
