ADI is a pure play for followers of ADSL, ATM, wireless, digital cellular, CATV, and other communication technologies. This is all made possible by the awesome power of an all-purpose DSP called the Super Harvard Architecture (SHARC) chip. For more information on its uses, see: analog.com
The SHARC can be used in parallel to deliver GigaFLOPs of processing power, outperforming most supercomputers. In 21st Impact (one of the finest tech zines on the net), it was reported that 64 SHARCs were deployed in parallel in a special purpose supercomputer called the ICE Machine. This machine was used to break Netscape's code using only $584 in processing power. For the complete story, see vxm.com .
ADI's financial performance has been almost as impressive as the SHARC. Earnings were $1.00/share for ADI's first quarter, up 50% from the preceding quarter. The latest quarter's earnings have not been released, but based on all the ADSL deployments using ADI's chipsets, I don't see how they could be underperforming. |
