ALRT Pet Reminder Products Ready for Production
First Order of 300,000 Units to Begin Production
BELLINGHAM, Wash., Aug 3, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- ALR Technologies, Inc. (ALR Tech), producers of pharmaceutical administration reminder products for the veterinary and human pharmaceutical markets, today
announced that production of the initial 300,000 ALRT(TM) Pet Reminder(TM) units will begin this month. The units will be in distribution channels by early January 2001. ALR Tech recently introduced ALRT Pet Reminder, designed to increase pet owner compliance in the administration of monthly and daily pharmaceuticals, to the veterinary pharmaceutical market. ALRT Pet Reminder uses both visual and audio
cues to remind pet owners when to administer animal health medications, such as heartworm preventives and arthritic drugs.
ALR Tech reports that an estimated 16 million dog-owning households in the U.S. purchase monthly medications
to prevent heartworm infection, and nearly 15 million dog owners and five million cat owners purchase monthly flea
control products.
Further reports indicate that a large number of pet owners purchase daily administered medications for pet ailments
such as arthritis, congestive heart failure and separation anxiety.
Utilizing microchip technology, ALRT Pet Reminder is easily programmable to fit individual dosing schedules and
can be reprogrammed by pressing a single button, should administration schedules change. ALRT Pet Reminder comes in
both monthly and daily (up to four times a day) reminder varieties and will be backed by a 12-month warranty. The
product is available in three fun, colorful designs - shaped like a paw, a bone or a heart -- and features a magnetic
backing for ease-of-use and placement in the home. The designs can be viewed at the company Web site - ww.alrt.com. The retail price will likely range from $8.00 - $12.00, depending on the area of the country and outlet
in which it is purchased.
"We asked consumers' advice when designing the ALRT Pet Reminder," said Stan Cruitt, President, ALR Tech.
"Based on their feedback, we developed an attractive, high-quality, easy-to-use, and most of all, affordable product that will help keep their pets healthy and happy."
Distribution agreements are being completed with various distributors that provide pet products to veterinary clinics
throughout the U.S., with efforts underway to finalize additional distribution agreements with national pet store
chains.
ALR Tech will launch a national awareness and promotional campaign, targeted at the veterinary community, this
fall, with a consumer awareness campaign to follow in January, 2001. "This is an ideal time to raise consumer
awareness," added Mr. Cruitt. "Many pet owners return to veterinary clinics early in the calendar year for their
pet's annual check-up, as well as to renew prescriptions for pharmaceuticals, such as heartworm preventives."
To ensure quality manufacturing at reasonable prices, ALR Tech has entered into a Letter of Intent with Tandy
Radio Shack Ltd., a Division of RadioShack Corporation ("Radio Shack"), to provide manufacturing support for
ALR Tech's products.
