HYPERBARIC SYSTEMS STARTS ORGAN PRESERVATION TESTING IN CIUDAD OBREGON, MEXICO
PALO ALTO, CA., August 8 - HyperBaric Systems (OTCBB: HYRB) announced today that it has recently started its organ preservation solution development and testing program at the Institute of Technology of Sonora, located in the city of Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico. The company has made arrangements with the Institute to utilize the facility for animal studies involving preservation and transplantation tests, using the Company's organ preservation solutions now under development.
All medical research work of the Company is directed by Luis Toledo, M.D., Ph.D., who recently joined the Company as its Chief Medical Officer and Executive Vice President. Dr. Toledo is an internationally recognized authority on organ transplantation and preservation. He is also Director of Surgery and Molecular Biology at the Borgess Research Institute and Professor of Surgery at Michigan State University.
The Company also operates its own research facility in Krasnoyarsk, Russia , employing 12 staff and support members involved in the development of its blood platelet preservation system for extending the shelf life of platelets. Platelets are used by trauma patients to stop bleeding and by cancer patients who have undergone treatments that require replenishment of their platelets. It is estimated that over $500 million in platelets are lost each year due to its short shelf life.
The Company has conducted platelet preservation studies in the U.S. at the Sacramento Medical Foundation in California and intends to continue work there in the future.
Founded in February 1998, HyperBaric Systems is focused on developing preservation systems that achieve longer shelf life of blood platelets, organs and tissues than is currently available, while maintaining the highest level of quality and safety possible. The Company is headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area with additional offices or technology centers in Michigan, Mexico and Russia.
