There have been several interesting stories coming out of South America lately.

The dollar is now the official currency in Ecuador, Alberto Fujimori abruptly announced he will step down as President of Peru, and skirmishes between the Colombian Army and the National Liberation Army rebels are escalating.

I thought this thread would be a good place to keep track of developments.
