On December 31, 2000, J.P. Morgan & Co. Incorporated merged with The Chase Manhattan Corporation. At the effective time of the merger, Chase changed its name to J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.
The combined entity offers commercial, consumer, and investment banking services to clients worldwide, although its branch network is highly concentrated in the Northeast and Texas. Investment banking services include brokerage, asset management, and proprietary investment. The company is one of the nation's largest mortgage loan originators and credit card issuers. It also owns a 45% stake in mutual fund company American Century Investments. |
