Why is driving dog teams called "mushing"? The orginal drivers were French. They yelled, "marchon", meaning, "let us march". It was corrupted by English speaking dog drivers into the word, "mush".

What's the origin of the term, "to freelance". A freelance writer is one not affiliated with one magazine or publishing group. Originally the term meant a soldier of the middle ages who had no allegiance to anyone, and whose services could be purchased by any feudal lord.

Where did the term "red tape" come from.
When some government process takes a long time, it's often due to being "tied up in red tape". The term comes from England where legal and official documents were literally tied in red tape centuries ago up to the nineteenth century.
