WASHINGTON - The U.N. secretary-general's special envoy to Afghanistan met Friday with top administration officials to try to smooth over growing differences with the United States over Afghanistan's postwar future.
Lakhdar Brahimi, who oversees the U.N. operation in Afghanistan, held talks in New York and Washington with Undersecretary of State Marc Grossman, Richard Haass - the State Department's point man on Afghan diplomacy - and Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage.
