War Eagle Mining (V.WEM) is a former high flying natural resource stock which has crashed and burned like most junior mining companies in this era of low gold and base metal prices. The historic high on this stock is around $9.50 but it currently trades at $.13. Unlike many other resource stocks, War Eagle did not roll back its shares. Instead, it put its Saskatchewan Diamond and Mexican gold projects on the back burner and made a strategic move into rare metals.
War Eagle is actively developing both its Mac Tantalum Property in the North West Territories, Canada , and its Tres Marias Germanium/Zinc Mine in Chihuahua, Mexico.
The Mac Tantalum property is an emerging world-class ore deposit with high grade tantalum grades which have been identified in six steeply-dipping NW-trending dyke swarms that range from 40 to 500 metres in width and that are individually traceable for up to 5km along strike; each dyke swarm contains up to 25 dykes ranging from .5 to 10 metres wide. Mineralized dykes are exposed over an area 12km by 2.5 km, suggesting that the MAC could be the largest tantalum deposit in the world. Further work including drilling is planned for spring/summer 2002.
War Eagle's Tres Marias Germanium Zinc mine is scheduled for production of Zinc/Germanium oxide ore beginning later in 2002.
Global demand for Tantalum has accelerated dramtically over the past few years, fuelled by the global growth in demand for minaturized electronic goods containing complex circuitry. Tantalum, which is a good conductor of heat and electricty and has a high melting point of 3000 degrees celsius, is used primarily as a capacitor in cell phones, pagers, computers, and controls for aircraft, missiles and weapons systems.
Germanium is used in fiber optic communication networks, infrared night visuion systems and other optical equipment. In recent years the demand for Germanium has exceeded production.
The company has approximately 30 million shares issued and outstanding.
