Return to Trading futures based on intermarket trends

Can trends in one market be used to trade other markets to make a profit? What is the best time frame to trade in and what markets are the most strongly correlated?

My current interest is to see if trends in commodity, Treasury bond, or Dollar Index futures have a significant impact on trading SP/ES index futures in a 1 to 5 day time frame.
