| “I promise.”
These two words men give to affirm an intention to carry out what they say.

Sometimes the commitment is small in our view – an agreement to get a specific task done for someone by a certain time. Sometimes the commitment is large in our view – “till death do us part.”

In the world of business where promises leave little legal recourse, agreements are put into writing and signed by the parties.

In a court of law witnesses are asked to take an oath to swear to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth and God’s name is invoked. The general idea is that such a solemn declaration would ensure care in the testimony given.

The universal thread here is clear. Men make promises and take pains to affirm their intentions to honor those promises. Why? Promises that men make to each other are broken every day. Many of us simply do not keep our promises, whether by neglect, deceitful intent, or simply because we promise that which we cannot perform.

Imperfect as they may be, the promises that we make each other, and trust or faith in each other to carry these out such promises, are an essential part of all our relationships from the most intimate to those which make our economy work.

The promises we make each other or agreements that we swear, while necessary and useful, can never provide a solid foundation for our lives.

This thread is for those who believe in God and are convinced that the PROMISES of JEHOVAH GOD provide THE FOUNDATION for LIFE.

This thread is also for those who do not believe, but are genuinely interested in examining or discussing the promises of God as given in the Bible and their fulfillment.

Jesus said in the Gospel of John

 John 7
16 … "(1) My teaching is not Mine, but His who sent Me.
17 "(2) If anyone is willing to do His will, he will know of the teaching, whether it is of God or whether I speak from Myself.

The invitation to those who have not accepted the promises of God is the same today as when Jesus spoke those words. To those who are not convinced but interested in finding out more, I can make no other claim to start than the one above regarding the teaching of the Bible and especially the teachings of Jesus Christ, but I believe the claim to be true. Let's look together at the promises given to those who have been called.

The emphasis here will be on looking at promises given in scripture and examining the fulfillment of those promises. The format is rather open, except that posters are asked to follow the topic as above.

I will be posting periodically (hopefully chronologically) on the promises God has given to His people throughout the Bible, over the course of time.
