The property information below is of historical interest.

Zenda's has acquired the Federal Kirkland Mine Property in Kirkland Lake, on the new North Break. The Federal was drilled by Gunnar Gold back in the 80's when they optioned it from Karl Forbes' Goldhunter. Forbes had completed a stripping and channel sampling of the property, which is situated in downtown Kirkland Lake just behind a row of houses in the suburb of Federal.

Residents used to come out to watch the work in droves. One day the police chief, fire chief, the mayor, several dozen residents and the news reporters as well as all the workers at the local mines ministry showed up to do outcrop superintending while the field crew worked away with shovels and hoses.

The author conducted a theodolite survey of the property and supervised the channel sampling. The assays were published in the Northern Miner in an advertisement, but we doubt that anyone believed them at the time.

An ore zone was established roughly 1500 feet long and there were had uncovered several veins that previous workers never knew existed. What was done was panning of the soil just above certain likely structures when the washing had just about uncovered the vein. Almost without fail, the veins below the gold grains returned high grade gold. What was found to be a rule was that if there was visible gold in the pan of more than a few grains, then within 10 to 15 feet there would be a high grade gold vein up-wash.

The Federal property is just north of the famous Main Break mines, the Macassa, the Lakeshore and the Wright Hargreaves. The Golden Mile of Kirkland Lake, on the Main Break produced some 39 million ounces of gold at high grades. Recent work by Kirkland Lake Gold (KGI/TSX) suggests that the new North Break may have equal potential to the fabled Main Break.
