Return to CLRA Claria - formerly Gator Corp.

Claria (formerly Gator) has filed for an IPO in Q2 2004.

This company has realized the potential of advertising with their own network on the web (the GAIN network) with customers like Kazaa. DoubleClick was once the undisputed leader of this space, but Claria might have more mindshare now. Here is the writeup from Hoovers:

Claria has locked its jaws on the world of online marketing. Formerly The Gator Corporation, the company serves targeted ads to more than 40 million computer users through its GAIN Network. The advertising messages are broadcast through software applications that track the user's online behavior and presents appropriate pop-up ads. Sometimes called spyware or adware, Claria's applications are either downloaded on their own or as part of other free software packages. (A portion of the ad revenue goes to those third-party software developers.) Founded by Denis Coleman in 1998, the company is backed by such venture capital firms as Greylock, Technology Crossover Ventures, and U.S. Venture Partners.
