Return to Why do we still have the Electoral College?

Hope to learn and share thoughts on... -

1. What was the reason behind setting up Electoral College?
(Why our founding fathers thought this was a good idea and compare how the political situation was different from today)

2. Now, after 200 years, is this still the best system to elect the President of the United States of America?

3. Most people seem to prefer direct popular vote (polls from 1970s to 2000s shows about 70 to 80% favors abolishing Electoral College system). If this is the people's wish, why didn't the congress change the system?

4. Pros and cons of having Electoral system.

5. Any thoughts or recommendations?
