Azure Dynamics is a company that has developed both a series hybrid electric and a parallel hybrid electric powertrain for the commercial truck market. The systems are operational in trucks from Class 3 to Class 8.
They initally plan to start selling to package delivery companies, taxi fleets, shuttle buses, but eventually hope to develop a kit for the OEM market.
They see their market being nearly 1,000,000 units a year with margins of $8,000 to $10,000 per unit.
Their series hybrid electric powertrain has demonstrated a 50% reduction in fuel consumption.
Purolator recently placed its first order for 115 delivery trucks for 2006, and hopes to replace its entire fleet within 5 years.
