Take a minute to share your opinions with our elected officials

There are many threads on SI where many people spend vast amounts of time discussing opinions on various political topics. As a general rule, I avoid these threads. I believe a more effective way to share your opinion with those that have a direct vote on issues is to take a minute to share your opinions with our elected officials.

You can find the contact for your Senator at:
visi.com

You can find the contact for your Representative at:
house.gov

You may wish to use the example below as a template for your personal message.

As my elected representative, I ask you to take action to protect my safety, and the safety of all Americans, by voting in favor of renewing the Patriot Act.

In addition, I support our President's use of his authority to authorize monitoring of conversations of suspected terrorists in this country. This is an essential element in the war on terror: revealing details of specific methods used in the ongoing effort to prevent future terrorist attacks is detrimental to our nation's security.

Thank you for taking the time to read my opinion.
It is my sincere wish that you have the courage to lay aside partisan opinions and cast your votes in accordance with the will of your constituents.

Sincerely,

Feel free to repost any emails that you send. I will not respond to any post on this thread: my goal is only to encourage your to take a minute to share your opinions with our elected officials.
