iRobot Corporation develops robots for the consumer, military, government security, and law enforcement markets. It operates in two segments, Consumer and Government and Industrial Products. The Consumer segment includes mobile robots used in the maintenance of domestic households sold primarily to retail outlets. The Government and Industrial Products segment offers PackBot line of small, unmanned ground robots and R-Gator, an autonomous unmanned ground vehicle. These robots used by various U.S. and foreign governments, primarily for reconnaissance and bomb disposal missions. The company sells its products to consumers through various distribution channels, including approximately 7,000 retail locations and its online store, and to the U.S. military and other government agencies worldwide. iRobot has strategic alliances with Deere & Company and The Clorox Company. The company was co-founded by Rodney A. Brooks, Colin Angle, and Helen Greiner in 1990. It was formerly known as IS Robotics, Inc. and changed its name to IS Robotics Corporation in 1994. Further, the company changed its name to iRobot Corporation in 2000. iRobot is headquartered in Burlington, Massachusetts. |
