Return to Sustainable Energy Technologies (STG.V)

Sustainable Energy Technologies (STG) is in the "grid interactive solar inverters" business. They manufacture rooftop systems that generate electricity using thin-film solar PV panels. STG's systems use a "massively parallel" wiring architecture that substantially increases operating efficiency. Another unique aspect of STG's system is that their operating voltage is so low that the risk of injury from accidental contact has been eliminated which reduces operating costs.

From the PARALEX product web site:

PARALEX is a new approach to solar power using massively parallel architecture with thin film panels to improve performance, simplify system design, and improve PV system safety. The parallel architecture is enabled by proprietary Extra Low Voltage inverter technology that directly matches the voltage of thin film panels, and maximizes the power output from each individual solar panel.

PARALEX systems take advantage of the higher energy yield per kW installed for thin film panels in comparison to conventional crystalline modules. The combination of thin film panels and massively parallel connection consistently results in the highest overall system performance ratio, with maximum resistance to any non-ideal conditions, partial shading, or mismatch losses.

Market Opportunity
The solar industry is forecasting strong growth in the value of grid interactive solar inverters:

2007 $1.3B
2010 $3.6B
2012 $5.3B
