Return to Microsoft Windows 8: Migrating to Windows 8 Pro from Windows

Migrating to Windows 8 Pro from Windows 7 (or XP or Vista)

Windows 8 is the current release of the Windows operating system, produced by Microsoft for use on personal computers, including home and business desktops, laptops, tablets, and home theater PCs. Development of Windows 8 started before the October 22, 2009 release of Windows 7. Windows 8 was released to manufacturing on August 1, 2012, and was formally released for general availability on October 26, 2012.

Migration strategies, issues, and experiences can be shared here on this board, but there are several other established SI boards where they can also be discussed and where experienced Beta Tasters of the Win 8 Release Candidate and early adopters of Windows 8 or Windows Pro 8, and others making the migration can answer questions. They include:

Me? When this board was created I was in the planning stages of migrating 2 Windows 7 desktops running Windows Home Premium (one 32-bit and one 64-bit) to 64-bit Windows 8 Pro and Media Center to take advantage of Microsoft's $39.99 upgrade which is available till January 31, 2013. Distracted by other things, at the last minute I purchased 3 product keys and downloaded (3) Win8 Pro ISO images on January 31 then installed and activated the oldest (32-bit Win7 HP) system that day.
