Although Bernie has consistently championed those causes which are core to the beliefs of American progressives, there has usually been a reluctance on the part of kindred spirits to seriously entertain the notion that anyone who openly professed such beliefs might actually be a viable candidate for POTUS.
Based on years of observing the US electorate self destruct in serial elections, most were resigned to supporting whoever the Democrat alternative to the inevitably more disastrous GOP option might be.
In the initial phases of the selection process for the 2016 election, it appears as though the years of GOP political malpractice may have crossed a bridge too far, and the electorate is starting to indicate a willingness to seriously consider a candidate who is candid about addressing the structural issues that have stymied the country in the pursuit of that more perfect union that was the original goal of our country.
