Welcome to the Iridium NEXT / CERTUS / AIREON Discussion forum. This is a CLOWN FREE zone! Pull up a chair to the Roulette Wheel and stay awhile.
Original Iridium went Bankrupt in one of the greatest technology flops in history. In May of 2009, Time Magazine called named it to it's "Top Ten Biggest Tech Failures of the last Decade" content.time.com
Now it's time for round two. Against overwhelming odds. Iridium's management has managed to pull off what many of us saw as being impossible. Financing, building and launching a second generation of 66 active satellites before their late 1990 launched first generation satellites failed that only had an original expected 5 year life expectancy. So kudos to Iridium's stellar management. Boy was I wrong!
All the Satellites are now on Orbit. They have several "Anchor tenants" in the US Department of Defense (22 Million a Quarter) satellitetoday.com and Aireon Space Based ADSB for worldwide aircraft tracking which Iridium currently holds a 25% equity position. aireon.com
