I recently read about this company and found it very interesting. Then I read more and became very excited. SCTR builds cellular and PCS transmission facilities, so you can use your cellular phone wherever you go. SCTR is the largest public wireless construction company. But 140 teleconstruction workers isn't that big, until you compare them with the rest of the industry which is made up of many mom-and-pop companies employing around 12 workers. SCTR wants to consolidate the industry and become the Blockbuster Video of wireless construction. Personal Communication Services (PCS) is coming out to compete against Cellular. PCS is a digital version of cellular with voice, video, and data communication capabilities using small handheld devices. Since SCTR builds facilities for both of these technologies, the competition will be nice. Here is a list of facts, you decide.
-SCTR has always made money -SCTR has ZERO debt and $4 million in cash -The industry estimates at least 100,000 PCS base stations and 15,000 cellular base stations will be constructed by 2005 -14 million US cellular subscribers in 1993, anticipated to jump to 35 million by 1998 -In order to compete, PCS operators must build in the next 2 years what cellular operators took 10 years to build -Last year in an FCC auction, $7 billion was spent on federal PCS licenses, now there is a $6 billion construction market -SCTR is a leader in hiding these cellular towers. They build them to look like trees, they build them in clock towers, church steeples, and even into the side of buildings -"We don't look at anyone as competitors just because there is so much work."
