What are your views on Corel as an interesting play on Java and the Internet. Here are my arguments:

1. It was reported in the September 2, 1996 issue of Information Week that Corel was much further along in its development of a Java-based version of WordPerfect.

2. Microsoft will be slow to develop a Java-based version of word because it could signal the end of the Wintel dominance in computing.

3. The fact that Java is platform independent will mean that MS will be relunctant to develop a Java-based version of Word. This represents a significant opportunity for Corel to grab market share, particularly from UNIX users who have had to run MS software in order to have a decent word processor or spreadsheet.

4. Corel graphics products are well suited for the Internet media.

5. Corel has plans to introduce a Java-based palm-sized PDA in March 1997

These are my thoughts. Corel's stock price looks pretty attractive these levels. I'm going to put my money where my mouth is and test my logic. All thoughts and opinions are welcomed.
