thanks for the update. i was wondering how it was going.

if the ensign people tell you that it may be your norton software, why not put the ball fully in their court? if you're up for it, take the whole norton package off your hd... full uninstall. (i believe that you can still run various components direct from your cd-rom drive, including av and norton utilities)

then see what happens. if the crashes continue, you have one more definitive piece of information to carry back to the ensign techs. that should be helpful.

and perhaps a subsequent reinstall of systemworks, performed with all of the standard prep functions (cache and cookie deletion, defrag, background apps shut down) will make a difference.
