Jean, and Paul, > IBM is nowhere on the radar screen, in the Unix world.
We'll see if Sun counters with anything.
Check this out from IBM's Q499 earnings report: However, within IBM's server family, Netfinity PC revenues increased significantly, as did revenues from RS/6000 mid-range servers, including the advanced RS/6000 Model S80.
The S80 had FCS in 9/99, so it had some new product sizzle to it. OTOH, you don't expect a fast ramp either.
So, do you expect IBM to die a slow death, and Sun to rule forever, even with hardware that the word is out on: it's underpowered guys. I don't care who you are, customers will ultimately opt for something that's 40% faster (I've seen the benchmarks, IBM over Sun). Sun's combination of a very average Microelectronics design division, and TI as a foundry, might just be over the hill, not IBM.
Jean, go crazy now and tell us that IBM hasn't put in a box in your area since 360.
