Who? This should make your day:

NEW FOX NEWS & NEWSWEEK POLL

Republicans have a large lead over Democrats among likely voters on the generic congressional ballot, according to a new Fox News national survey. The survey finds Republicans holding a 9-point lead among likely voters, 47-38 percent, and an 8-point lead, 45-37 percent, among registered voters.

"This survey reflects the continuing Republican trend developing around the nation," said National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman John Linder. "Six months ago, while Martin Frost was predicting that Democrats would take control of the House, I was predicting that Republicans would gain 10 to 15 seats. Exactly three weeks before Election Day, I am the only one sticking by my prediction.

"America's working families continue to identify with core Republican issues. When given a choice between a Republican who wants to balance the budget, or a big-government Democrat, we win. When choosing between a Republican who wants to continue welfare reforms, and a Democrat who wants to roll them back, we win. If voters have to choose between a Republican who will set aside $1.4
trillion dollars to preserve Social Security, and a Democrat who never set aside one penny in 40 years, we win. And finally, when given the simple choice between a Republican who wants to cut taxes and a Democrat who wants to raise them, we win."

Additionally, Newsweek reports that the GOP has an 8-point lead among likely voters on the generic congressional ballot. The Newsweek poll finds 49 percent of likely voters favoring Republicans, while 41 percent favor Democrats (Newsweek, October 19, 1998).
