Dennis, It is possible to get ad revenue from your posts even if you never see an ad, since placing ads on any non-member pages is fair game. So...plugging in some arbitrary numbers...if 100 lurkers view your great post and we can place a banner on each of the page views at, say, a 10 CPM (1 penny), your post is potentially capable of generating $1 in ad revenue.
